I remember reading this book when I was a kid. It’s about a boy who lives in a dystopia society that became that way because of virtual reality experiences that made people stop caring about the real world. He is allergic to these experiences, which are given via injection to the brain, so instead he just watches 3D movies, which no one cares about anymore. Something bad happens, I think he goes looking for his family and find out one of his younger siblings/friends is sick, so he needs to bring her to the utopian society found in the middle of their society. But that isn’t easy since it’s so heavily protected. Most of the book is the journey to the utopia, and there’s a part where he meets like a gang or province or something that is in complete shambles because their king is brain dead, and only left living because of the virtual reality experience. With the help of one of the girls that he should have a romantic relationship with, they get in, but they aren’t allowed to stay. Instead, her family takes the younger kid as their own, and the main character leaves.
If someone could help identify this book, it would help me so much. Thanks!
